Sligo Rovers lost to St Patrick's Athletic and fell to the bottom of the Premier Division after a 1-0 defeat at The Showgrounds. Aidan Keena's 74th-minute goal was the difference as the visitors reclaimed top spot in the title race.
The result leaves Sligo Rovers 10th in the Premier Division with 23 points from 32 games, having now lost their last five matches. They have not won a league fixture since May. Manager Darren Purse must now prepare his side for a key away trip to face sixth-placed Shelbourne on 9 October.
St Patrick's Athletic, managed by Stephen Kenny, moved back to the summit with four games remaining as they chase a first league crown since 2013. The win came after Shamrock Rovers had briefly taken the lead earlier in the weekend.
Sligo Rovers' next challenge is a visit to Tolka Park, where they drew 2-2 with Shelbourne back in June.
