Sligo Rovers have snapped up former Inter Milan and Roma prospect Kevin Zefi on a deal until the end of the season. The 21-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Roma last year, has been training with the Bit O' Red and scored in a friendly against Mansfield. Zefi, an Ireland Under-21 cap, is looking to kick-start his career with the Premier Division side and make an instant impact. He revealed last year that he suffered racist abuse during his time in Italy, but is now focused on helping Sligo Rovers climb the table. Zefi said John Russell, the manager, gave him a huge opportunity to come and train with the team, and he feels at home already. The player is hoping to bring creativity to the final third and chip in with assists and goals. Rovers boss John Russell has been keen on Zefi since last summer and is ready to help the youngster get back on track. Russell said the Showgrounds provides the ideal environment for Zefi to progress his career. Zefi has League of Ireland experience from his time at Shamrock Rovers, where he played for the Hoops' second team in the First Division during the 2020 season. He made his debut at the age of 15 and has been courted by Albania. Zefi watched his new club defeat his old employers last weekend at Tallaght Stadium and is now looking forward to facing Bohemians on Friday night. He is working hard to get up to speed and hopefully get going against Bohs. The international clearance for Zefi is expected to come through in time for the game, and Russell is delighted to have him on board. Zefi's signing is a major boost for Sligo Rovers, who are looking to push on in the Premier Division. The club has a great group of players, and Zefi's creativity will be a valuable addition. With the Bohs game coming up, Zefi is eager to make his mark and help Sligo Rovers get a crucial win.
