Sligo Rovers have signed striker Jamie McGonigle on loan from Coleraine until the end of the 2026 League of Ireland season.
What happened?
The 30-year-old striker has departed Coleraine and linked up with Sligo Rovers on a temporary basis, subject to international clearance.
McGonigle is drawing on his experience and knowledge of the Premier Division, having played under Coleraine boss Ruaidhri Higgins at Derry City.
Why it matters for Sligo Rovers
The striker is targeting a fast start to life at The Showgrounds, aiming to help Sligo Rovers escape the relegation zone, currently 25 points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers.
Sligo Rovers are bottom of the standings in the Premier Division on 20 points in 23 games, but McGonigle has faith that the attacking talent around him can speed up his bedding-in process.
What comes next?
With 42 goals scored and 54 conceded, Sligo Rovers have a -12 goal difference, but McGonigle's signing is expected to boost their survival mission.
As of the last result, Sligo Rovers won 2-1 against Shamrock Rovers on 2025-11-01, and are currently on a 2-game winning run, with a recent form of 2W-2D-1L.
Manager John Russell believes he has signed a player of real quality with a proven goal record, who can make a difference in Sligo Rovers' season, currently 7th in the Premier Division with 41 points from 36 games.
